August 13

Dear folks,

Well, the week of weeks is over and the week-end is very relaxing. I got through without having to ask for an incomplete, and got my grades all Satisfactory by mistake too early but I don't think there will be any changes. Dolores is at her home still today but I expect her soon. I spent last night with her to give her mother the satisfaction of cooking a meal for us. She served steak at $1.25 a pound which was extremely tender. We did not go to the International Center because Dolores felt that her hair looked too bad; she was also a little sick. So we just went to an awful movie. Today I have slept almost all day and at last feel ready to go back to the grind.

I hope you have picked up the typewriter by this time.

We have eaten well and cheaply. I will give you an idea of our menus:

corned beef hash, tomatoes, and fresh corn (her garden); lemon pudding
cheese burgers (buns with hamburg and cheese), tomatoes, green beans; icecream
beans, stuffed tomatoes, green beans; cake
peach and cole slaw salad, hamburg, tomatoes, fresh corn

The tomatoes are ripening so fast that I had to give Mrs. Stone over a dozen to prevent them from rotting. I have watered them only once, but we have had rain. The fish are gorging themselves regularly. The clock is wound. Dolores is afraid to take a bath and heats up water in kettles. We both carry keys.

Nothing more to report. I will be seeing Dad shortly and cooking for him, alas. Say hello to Grandma for me if she is not already reading this letter. Dolores wants to be reminded also.

Love,
Doris
