[[strikethrough]] of may

Yours of 28 of may came to hand the 15 of the present inst. I will state the facts [[strikethrough illegible]]. after Lees surrender I told Sarah that she was free an to go when she pleased. She left and went to her former masters an in a short time returned and sd she was engaged to be married to James Williams and he had sent her away to stay at my house until he came back which was only in a short time an they would marry an go to her mothers who granted her the privilege to stay but has no controle of her whatever she went an came at her will. I never tell her [[???]] to do the first thing during the time and as to refusing to pay her is fals she ast for nothing nor still not expect anything [[illegible]] [[only?]] asks the faver to be let stay until James returns. she had expected any thing she [[ask?]] to something [[either?]] she went to leave if it is just that I shal pay her for granting the favor of Leting her stay on, not requireing the first [[?]] turn nor expecting no reward then she may claim something
