Norfolk, Va. June 29, 1865
Col. O. Brown,
AssistantCommissioner

Dear Sir
Your letter J 27, Inst. is received. In answer to your
question, I reply, that I intend to withdraw from the A.A. Association, if I can obtain employment, among the Freedmen with salary sufficient to support me. I find that ten, or even fifteen dollars a month with
my expenses is inadequate to my
support, if I lay by anything for the future. If I do not obtain employment, I shall be obliged to remain with the A.A.A. until some way opens for me. Trusting that if able you will be willing to employ me.

I Remain
Yours Very Respectfully
Hope R. Daggett
