Dear Friend
Col O Brown

I have found it almost impossible to find any reliable channel of transport for books &c for our school in N Carolina & Va except Adam, Exprep. The charges by this are so high that I have decided on this venture; to ask thy advice & aid in the matter. He can ship direct to Richmond in steamers; but who will care for the summer there, and reship to the points on the N.C.R.R. – Danville &c? We have ordered off a valuable cargo (near $1000 worth) without sufficiently weighing the chances; and though these do not come within thy range of business I wd be much obliged for some force detailed from thy apartment in order that the boxes 12 in number and marked Care of Col. O. Brown Richmond Va

on board the "Steam Pucket Co's" vessel between Philada & Richmond, for sundry persons in N.C. as marked on the boxes shipped 26th inst [[strikethrough]] where He will be due on [[/strikethrough]] may go on right from Rd.
