Prof Woodbury,

Dear Sir:

Your letter of the 22d to Dr. J. E. Rhoads is received.

I regret to state that the Doctor has been absent from the office since Tuesday last in consequence of the decease of a near relative of his. However I expect him to return, either to morrow (Saturday) or Monday, when you may expect a more satisfactory reply to your letter. In the meanwhile I would state that there is little doubt but that Messrs Bancroft & Varney will be appointed teachers by our arrive on Monday next. I have taken a copy of R.M. Manly's letter and herein return you the original as requested in your letter.
