We are two of the party of teachers to the Freedmen--sent out by the Friends' Association of Philadelphia--which called on thee with our friend James E. Haighn on the 6th inst. to whom then gave an order for us to present to the Offices of Bureau here, Danville our destination. Then told us that we were coming to a miserable place and we have found thy words true.

We arrived here at 9 P.M on the 7th inst; two women alone; a guard conveyed us to the Bureau; Chaplain Hawks was away some miles in the country: return on the 9th inst.
