P.S. Yesterday an agent of the Pacific Railroad applied to me to know whether colored men could be obtained in the south to work on said road. He says the Co. will guaranty good treatment, take them free of expense to their work, & then help them to public land, or return them to their former places- will give them a dollar per day and pay them every week.
