pushing school matters and ignoring any reported action of the different authorities. 

The citizens have elected a Superintendent, of Public schools and offered in resolution in the newspapers to take charge of freedman if the support was continued which is now given by the north. Our schools are in such successful progress that we cannot permit unofficial action to retard in the least.

Please assure Col Brown, that under no circumstances will I take any action interfering with present status of schools without his orders.
