Rev R. M. Manly
Richmond Va
Dear Bro
I have delayed writing as I wished to get some expression of opinion at the meeting of our Teacher Committee of this Branch of the Commission on the subject of our school, on 6th sheet and the one to be established by the Commission. The committees or members of each quite agree that one person should have the direction of both enterprises. The committee have authorised me to say further, that they know of no one who could better conduct such an enterprise than yourself. You long experiences in educational matters would go far towards making [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] it a success.
We want a first class graded school in Richmond & erected therewith under the Commission a normal school. I have no doubt, that the Principal of the school would be authorised to have an oversight of all the schools established in R. by any branch of the Com. & draw from them any materials for the Normal School. This was spoken of at the Boston Meeting & agreed to. This Committee desires to learn from you at once what compensation you would have in assuming the position above named.
