Rev. R.M. Manly.
Supt. Schools.

Dear Sir,
There seemed to be such a general desire to close the schools earlier than the 14th of July, as to prevail with the Committee to issue the order to close on the thirtieth instant, today. And it was thought that, perhaps it would be best, all things considered, to have all the schools close with the present date.

But the reasons, you render why the schools, at Richmond, should continue a week longer, are such, as to commend themselves to the judgment, I cannot doubt, of all, who are ardently devoted to the best good of the colored race.

And although, I have not an opportunity to consult the Committee, yet I am quite sure, were they or any of them present, there would be but one sentiment, & that the continuation of the schools, in your city, for the additional week. Tickets will be sent you for the return transportation of teachers.

Yours truly, James Woolsey
