Nevertheless, I have secured Mr. W. against loss to July 1st, which was all I ever promised in that way.  Have used my influence in every way in his favor - as our committee will tell you.  Have, I think, aided to secure to him the white Schools for another year which was more than I promised. And as to Miss Stevenson's letter, the committee was ready to re-investigate in the presence of Mr W. and Mr. Chase at any time.  And so I think I have fulfilled the spirit if not the precise letter of my proposition; notwithstanding the modifications asked by Gen. B & Mr W.  In regard to the charge of "misrepresentation" I gave you the words of the committee - not my own.  
I have written a full statement of the case to Gen Brown which he has accepted without any complaint or apparent unwillingness and the building is now held for us.  I cannot see that Gen Brown has cause of complaint nor does he seem to feel so.  As for Mr Washburn I have done and am still ready to render him any service in my power & the committee does not intend to treat him [[?]]
