Dear Sir.
Our expenses in settling up with our returning teachers are very large & the truth is we shall be unable to collect funds, more than [[strikethrough]] necessary [[/strikethrough]] sufficient to support about the same number of teachers in the south, as we have had in the year past perhaps we may be able to do nine — 

I write at the request of our Committee, to ascertain whether the Bureau cannot be induced to appropriate to our Treasury the amount we have expended on the school buildings in Richmond & release us from the obligation of furnishing offices at our expense for the Bureau. You will see that section IB of the Bill provides for such cases. The expense of maintaining this school will you know be large next year. The lots we have bought which will do to keep — but the other expenses for building the Bureau should pay. Please get Gen Brown to do all you can for us.
