My dear Mr. Manly,

Yours of the 26th is in hand. I have learned so much, in respect to the schools, in your city, under the auspices of the A. Bap. Home Miss. Society as shall enable us to know how to shape our course. That Society will relinquish the work of secular education, properly so called. They will sustain one School, normal in its character, & partaking of a religious character.

Now it is for us to keep our eyes open, & as they vacate, to step in & occupy. How can this be done most effectively? Can you not find out when the schools close & lay hold of chances to possess ourselves of the school accommodations & Scholars? A word to the wise is enough.

I will send our Circular of Instructions to M[[strikethrough]] iss [[/strikethrough]]rs Kate Hemenway, of Wrentham, Mass. If she is the right person for you, we will try to secure her services.

Be frank to say who of the old teachers at R. you wish to have returned.

Again, let me inquire how we shall in the best manner get hold of the children which may be left, when the Home Mission Schools close?

Yours & for your eye only
James J. Woolsey
