Freedmens Bureau.

Dear Sir -
Yours of the 24th July with enclosure & endorsement thereon is received. The com'ee in the present state of our finances are much pleased at the action of the Bureau in coming to our relief. There is a large work for them to do & we have further requisitions to make. Which I will do, if I understand what you mean - You & Gen Brown will know how reasonable and necessary they are. But where is Chase? Don't he understand his business? You are hereby requested to draw on the Assistant Commissioner Gen Terry for the $500 appropriated for ground rent & expenditures on buildings erected by this Association - I have just returned from a short vacation & will write you again tomorrow - Respectfully Yours

Wm Geo. Hawkins
Cor. Sec.

P.S. You will please send the above amount to this office as we are much in need of the funds. W G.H
