self-help. We hope that our schools may be so arranged this winter, that everywhere there will be a small advanced class under the care of the Head Teacher, preparing to become Teachers; practicing the art on the primary classes of the school. If we can show next summer a corps of colored Teachers in that way, our hopes will be realized. We have sent Mr Geo Prett to a number of towns in the 4th Dist. & his report is very encouraging as to the readiness of the people to promise to aid; but as you say it may be "more readily subscribed than rendered".
Perhaps there may be more difficulty in getting co-operation in this way in Richmond than is country towns, where rents are less exorbitant; but perhaps they can do something and the smallest [[?]] is better for them, than merely to receive.
