Since the passage of the Military Bill, there seems to be a stronger feeling of Confidence, in the power of the Govt to protect them, and a still stronger desire to be educated, and to have a school to which they may send their children. I think that a school would go unmolested now, and if one could be established, so that many of the Freedmen could get enough education to enable themselves to become familiar with the laws, that there would never be a sufficient majority of their enemies in power to injure them in any way, in this Sub. Dist. at least, as there is a strong majority of white unionists in the two Countries.
