Office Asst. Supt. Sub Dist No 8. 7th Dist Va
Lexington Va Feb 20th 1867 -
R. M. Manly Supt Education F.B.

Sir
I have the honor to request that a Freedmens School be established at Warm Springs. The agency seat of Botham County - which contributes a part of the Sub-District [[?]] in my charge.
The Freedpeople in that neighborhood are very desirous of having such a school, and some twenty-five or thirty people would attend it.
One teacher would be sufficient and, if possible, this one should be a person of sagacity - and that - as the white citizens of our county are generally opposed to Freedmen's schools, and I wish to overcome this opposition as quietly as my duty to the Freedmen will permit.
I have had some correspondence with Mr Brackett on the subject - but he has given me no positive assurance as to whether we can or cannot establish the school.
