Respectfully returned to Rev. J.W. Alvord, Genl. Supt. Schools BRF&A.L. with the information that the Commissioner has directed that transportation in kind to teachers returning from the Southern States be given when such teachers have been employed by the American Missionary Association or by either Branch of the American Freedmen's Union Commission", and have been recognized as temporary agents of the Bureau, provided that the total cost of such transportation shall not exceed one thousand dollars ($1000) for each of said association.
