(40) Irolo,

and mice. Caught 1 gopher and 3 Sitomys, same as those taken in the "Arenal" at Tlalpam [[Tlalpan]] and elsewhere.

We came through almost continuous maguey fields clear from Pachuca. The soil is rather poor and much of the land is stony. A little corn, wheat, and barley, is raised, but pulque is the principal crop.

Irolo Apr. 2 Sun.
I have caught 24 Peradipus. Dipodomys phillipi does not seem to occur here. I have taken 13 specimens

(41) Irolo,

of a large long-tailed Sitomys in a canon south of town. I shot a Jack rabbit day before yesterday & Mr N. shot a gopher & a Surtonya. Birds are very scarce no birds of much importance have been killed except yesterday when Mr N. killed a very large black swift & I killed a Pipilo (mt. species)

The weather is clear, cool, and fine with freezing at night.
