I caught a few white-bellied Sitomys and arvicolas. By the 27 the "moth" as they are called had spent itself and the morning being clear we concluded to climb to the "Cofre" about 1 1/2 or 2 mi, above us. We could see down on the plain where it appeared like the sea, all was fog. Before we reached the top the clouds rose and shut in everything so that we saw very little of what lay below us. The mt undoubtedly commands a splendid view in the direction of the Gulf for it was our luck as on all the other mts, to have bad day. We gat[hered]

[gat]hered a few specimens of plants which grow near and above timber line and captured a lizard on the extreme summit of the "Cofre". about 13500 ft. above the sea. Mr N. took some pictures of the "Cofre" etc. and about noon we were back at the "Rancho". The fellow there, got his animals ready and packed our outfit down to the lower edge of the firs. We walked down arriving about 2:30 I got out a lot of traps for mice and gophers in the latter I had good success. There are three timber belts here as elsewhere. Beginning at the bottom
