Spotsylvania County Va. April 18, 1867 Sir, I hereby make application for a position as school teacher in one of the Freedmen's schools. I moved with my parents from Newport, R.I., little more than a year ago, and taught a day school for the black children of the neighborhood, last summer, but find that it is hard work for them to raise the small sum which I charged - 10 cts per week. I graduated from the High School at Newport on the 26th of May, 1866, and received a diploma at that time. Carrie T. Peabody To Maj. James Johnson Supt. 6th Dist. Va., B.R.F.&A.L.
