Rev R.M. Manley

Dear Sir
I hope you will pardon me for writing to you being an entire stranger to you -- but the importance of my subject is my apology.

I have been informed that you have something to doo with the Freedmen's Beauraur more particularly the educational part of it I therefore have bin induced to write you upon that subject I will make the fololowing with the hope that it may be of some service to you in you're efforst to doo good

In refferance to the Freedmen of this County (Roanoke) there is a good No of them and i think I can say that thay are as respectable people as can be found in any other county in the state, and are disposed to doo all thay can for thenselves in every respect.

But thay havent the means at there command to accomplish much so fase as regards morrel + mental culture and what I desire to call youre attention to is the subject of schools for them and will make some statements hopeing that you will do somthing for them
