Head Quarters Superintendent 2nd District,
Petersburg, Va, April 28th 1867

Revd R M Manly
Dr Sir
I have just received your letter and am pleased and surprised by your statements; pleased that I was mistaken in supposing you unfavorable to the school in question, and surprised to learn that you had not seen my communication calling for help. Your opposition to a purely sectarian school would have done you no discredit but I feared you had a wrong impression in reference to the one in question because when you have inspected the other schools of this city I learned you did not visit this one. Doubtless however this was inadvertent. I have to day returned the communication referred to as not having been seen by you, and have added an endorsement and believe you will recommend such aid to the school.
