Sir: Floyd County is entirely without schools for freedmen. We are desirous of establishing one at the Court House. Within a distance in which attendance is practicable the freedmen report to me forty pupils. Other families in the County would move within reach if the school could be established and I have no doubt of the attendance of twenty five pupils [[strike] within [[/strike]] during the summer and over fifty during the winter.
You are aware that our county is poor and our citizens impoverished by the late war and I hope will excuse them for not doing more than they have. They have sucscribed
