I have the honor to inform you that I visited Saltville Washington County Va last week with the view to find out what chance there was to establish a Day School at that place and find out if a suitable building could be procurred and a place for teachers to board. I would inform you that the representative of the Salt Company (Mr. Jaques) has kindly tendered the use of a frame building 30 by 40 to the Freedmen of that place for a school house for a period of two years free of rent and has given them 20$ towards its repairs. The Freedmen will have it ready for use fitted up with seats and benches in two weeks and are very anctious and humbly pray that some Charitable Society north might send them a teacher either a white or black man.
