May 31. Danville
Geo Dixon

feel obliged by thy kindly making General Brown acquainted with the facts in this letter.

We had a visit from Judge Kelley two days ago. He was astonished at the progress made by the pupils, and made a few of the best scholars handsome presents. We also had F.A. Fiske* to visit us, who was highly pleased. He had an opportunity of seeing and hearing the annoyances to which we have been subjected. I will give thee his own words, he said, "had I been teacher these things would have made me go mad". Col Carse heard this and blushed tremendously knowing that he was the cause of it. We are willing to suffer patiently, and hope for better times.

We have a pleasant rememberance of thy visit. My wife desires to write in kind rememberance to thee.

My Sincere Friend
Geo. Dixon

*Note. Thou are no doubt aware that F.A. Fiske is the Superintendent of Education for N. Carolina
