I have the honor to report in compliance with instructions contained in circular no. 5 C.S. that I have during the first month visited the freedmen school at this place and I find the children improving rapidly and I think considering the time they have had the privilege of attending school they have made wonderful progress - I think I may say sagely that they will compare favourably with scholars of the same age (considering they have been at school less than two years) of any class or color in the United States.

This school I am sorry to say is now about to closed - the lady in charge Mrs Dixon being unable to retain the services of teachers for any length of time - owing to her temper and malicious conduct towards them- this is proven by the facet that she has so abused all the teachers who have been sent here that they would not remain in the work.

She now closes the school under the pretext of forming a normal school but I
