idea that the Episcopal Society will officially make any such pledge; nor that any quasi pledge, thus made, will be redeemed by them. Take off a figure at either end, and you will probably find the sum which they will actually give there. Take off two figures at either end and I guess you will find what they will be willing to do for schools not on an Episcopal basis.

We shall be happy to prosecute the work at Norfolk, and do what we further can for a. high school; but I desire to say that while the Episcopal Society has some good teachers there, their interference has not, on the whole, promoted the cause of education.
