CHILD, D.D., Secretary. [[horizontal line]] Tract House, 28 Cornhill, Boston, June 11th 1867 Rev J. W. Alvord Dear Bro. Your Communication, enclosing an application from Brig. Gen. Brown requesting five thousand primers, is received. In reply I would say that the demands on our resources are so great. I do not see how we can meet this call. If the Bureau would bear half[[underlined]] the expense, I think I would try to furnish the books. I would thank you to bring this matter to the notice of Gen. Howard, + if he can leave an appropriation for this object, we will endeavour to do what I have indicated above. Sincerely Yours William C. Child. P.S. 5000 primers would be $1000.
