When Gen Howard ordered that Supt of Bureau shld encourage schools & render to teachers of Fr all the aid they could he did not, I presume, expect them to mount the box, take the reins & crack the whip over preachers & teachers which is, in my opinion, what Capt Connolly would do.
The field is so large and there is so much work to be done for the Freedmen that there ought to be no strife among Christians engaged in the good cause and that these may be there should be no wedging in by one to force another out.
