A committee of Freedmen, of whom I am one, addressed you through Lieut H. L. Hunt of Salem, during the latter part of May, an application for means to aid us in erecting a school house. We have heard nothing from the application, nor nothing from Lt Hunt though we have written to him since The lapse of sufficient time for [[crossed out]] us [[/crossed out]] him to have heard from you. 

Would you be sufficiently kind to answer me as to the result of the application.
