admittance, I understand that there was a school organized here early in '66 and the Teachers from the North used this same building, but they left about 12 months ago, since which time nothing has been done for the education of the Colored People, Dr. Mills is & has been working hard for them & does not get or expect to receive any recompense.
Do you think that any assistance for the Bureau can be obtained, if $50 or $60 was appropriated the Present School House may be [[crossed-out]] sufficiently enlarged for Sunday School purposes also for the establishment of a day school which is very necessary, the Colored People are very anxious to learn and would be willing to support a Teacher. If there are a number of Books here now which were left by the Society Teachers but they are all 1st Readers, can you send some Primers to their Books.
