Mr. Manley,

I have been acting as a self-appointed committee for the examination and comparison of various textbooks on written arithmetic, with a view to suggesting one for the use of the Richmond Normal School,

Walton's appeared to me best adapted to that use, and after consulting teachers who use it, I took the liberty to write the author to inquire upon what terms he would supply it for introduction. I quote from his reply - "I will promise you 50 copies of the written arith-
