NEW YORK BRANCH
FREEDMANS UNION COMMISSION,
No. 30 Vesey Street.
(LATE NATIONAL FREEDMAN'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION.)

New York, 4 November 1867.

R. M. Manly,
Dear Sir,
Your favor of the 11th inst. has been duly submitted to such members of our Branch as reside in the city. While we should be glad to have such an institution as you describe commenced, it does not seem to them wise to undertake as an association such a school. In other words they concur with you in not being sure, given that "this is a work for the association to undertake at present."
Yours Very Truly
Robert Abbott
Gen Sec.
