I am anxious that the Freedmen of Va should have a least half a chance to be educated, before I am willing to be content with what I have done.
 
They want schools, & offer to raise a school here of 100 scholars, & furnish the room, fuel & lights. Also another school of the same size in Clarksville, and they furnish fuel room & lights.

The freedmen cannot afford to pay teachers, at present, as very many planters here have become bankrupts & on that account money is scarcer than it would otherwise be. If you have any teachers to send, there is ample field for their labors here. If you cannot send any teachers, please write me whether you can accredit a teacher to some association that you have represented in the field already, provided I can get a teacher, or teachers from my father's church in the North, as I believe where teachers are sent by associations, the Gov will furnish transportation, or if by any other means you can get the transportation please inform me. I do not know that I can get teachers but if you cannot possibly send any
