New York 13: Feby 1868

Mr. R.M. Manly
Richmond

I wish if Lieut Kimball of Laurenceville Va. is about your office (The Bureau) that you would desire him to ask for Transportation orders for two colored girls from Laurenceville to New York. One named Harriet Hoskins aged 12 or 13, and Alice Gee, 16. The first is one of the daughters of a poor Freedman, and the other of a poor Freedwoman, and she a widow. Good homes are offered to both of them here, and it is likely that their being here will be of service to the families in Va to which they belong.

If Lt. Kimball has left Richmond will you please procure orders for the transportation of these two girls and send them to Mr. A.C. Burbank, Teacher Laurenceville, if they be obtainable. Possibly, they may be sent to Mrs. Fortune at Petersburg, but I cannot tell any thing definitely. If by any accident they should reach your castle please give them a start this way. The elder is to live in my family if she ever gets here.

Respectfully

Your

E.C. Estes
