My Dear Sir
Your letter and pamphlets were received some time since. I must ask you to excuse my late reply, inasmuch as my double occupation of teacher and preacher here among the Colored people occupies so much time that much of my correspondence is often sadly neglected.

The little works you sent and the cause they are intended to aid, I heartily approve of, and I would immediately carry your suggestions into effect, if necessity required such a step here at present. As a general thing, our people are remarkably free, from intoxication Such a sight as a drunken man, on the streets, I have never witnessed
