Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
Head-Quarters Assistant Commissioner, District of Virginia,
Richmond, Va.,......March 31.....1868.
R.S. Lacey Supt Asst Lieu[[??]]

Sir:

I am directed by the Asst. Comm'r[??]] to inquire of you whether the monies asked as rent for a school room at Lovingston Depot, ($10), is a fair and usual rental for similar accommodations in that section of Country. From $2.50 to $5. per month is the price usually paid in other sections of the State. The state of school funds will not warrant that any patronage to the teacher shall be embraced in the rent.

Very Respectfully
R.M. Manly
Supt Education
