Smithfield Va of Isle of wight. Co. Va. April. the 7th 1868

We the undersigned [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] freedmen living in the town of Smithfield do partition to the freedmen Bureau to please Aid us in our school we have rented a frame building of Mr. Ackerson the building is 40 feet by 30 with 2 rooms for the Sum of 7 per month Mr Ackerson being favorable of a colored school taken of two dollars which leaves 5 dollars per month the Rev. Isaac J Hill. Will teach being a missionary minister sent by the A.M.E. Church has opened the school this morning the prospect is good for a fine school we have 20 day scholars and 25. night scholars total 45 scholars we are in much need of Books hopeing that our partition may meet with Success we remain
