Rev R. M. Manly
Richmond

Dear Sir

I suppose applications for books have been referred to you for approval but in advance of any possible official action may I ask you will in course of the week furnish me with a few books or children's papers for the following purpose. I found here one S. School under sup'n of Mr Watkins of Presbyterian Church well managed and orderly, but the Baptist S. School (the most numerous denomination by far) entirely disorganized, a willing but entirely ignorant Supt., no teacher, no order, no books. I attended this school addressed the children and last Sabbath many of the parents also and revived interest in this all important work. Without, but not against any consent, every one present called upon me to act as Supt. and believing it necessary I consented and promised if the children would come forward present and doing whatever our hands find [[?]] with all our might leave the results to God.

Truly
Thos P Jackson
