Col. Ayres,

Major Page gave me yesterday your message offering to assist in building our S.S. House - or Chapel - for the freedmen - and I write at once to say how acceptable your aid will be. 

If it is not giving you too much trouble, the most efficient help towards the building - will be for you to provide and have delivered at Beaver Dam Dept - whatever portion you please of the materials on the list enclosed-

No one would contract to do the job for the amount in hand - as it is not enough to get the materials and pay for the work and it has been very difficult to find reliable men to work by the day.

Two men came this morning who will carry on the work - as far as the funds permit - the whole carpenter's bill
