In acknowledgement and reply to yours of the 18th July ult advising that a certain tract of land formerly owned by D.E. Bowers, and located in Johnson County, Tenn. be relinquished from the control of this Bureau and that all unpaid rents be also relinquished.-  I am directed by the Assistant Commr. to say that rents should be collected on this property up to March 31st 1866, the date of the execution of the Bond for a deed by David E. Bowers, to Jno Grayson purchaser.

Your reply in the case of Mary F. Jones, Colored, vs Albert Jones is received at this office.  In reply thereto I am directed by the Asst. Commissioner, to say that the boy Joseph will be restored to his mother, Mary F. Jones upon the conditions that she satisfy this office as to her ability to provide for him, and that she furnish the necessary

Mary has been apprised of these orders.

Madam -

In acknowledgement and reply to your communication of the 24th of January 1866.  I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner, Bvt. Maj. Genl. Wm. P. Carlin, to say as follows: It has been found upon investigation that your son Joseph was regularly apprenticed by the Agent of this Bureau, to Mr. Albert Jones.  Mr. Jones however is willing to surrender the child upon his being released from his bond and agreement.

Before this can be advised, however, you will be required to furnish evidence by the certificates of two or more disinterested reliable parties that you are competent to provide for your child.

You will also have to furnish for him transportation to Paducah, Ky.
