Sir:
I am directed by the Asst. Commissioner, Bvt. Lieut. Col. James Thompson, U.S.A., to acknowledge receipt of your letter of Nov. 11, 1868, in relation to repairs on school houses at Shelbyville, Tenn. In reply thereto, I am directed to inform you that "one hundred and fifty dollars" ($150) is granted for repairs on the school house in the 7th District, at Shelbyville, Tenn., and "Fifty Dollars" ($50) for the school house of the other district, provided that the colored people hold a free title to the land upon which the buildings are situated. If so, you can proceed with the repairs; and upon the completion of the work and satisfactory evidence of the above fact, the bills to the amount allowed will be paid.

You can proceed with the work and upon completion of the same and presenting the bills to this office, the amount allowed will be paid.
