yesterday and stated that you had given him a verbal promise in Washington, recently to aid that Society in repairing or building schoolhouses or a schoolhouse in this City and he desired me to enter into contracts for the performance of the work, which of course, I declined, on the ground that the fiscal year had closed and that I had no more school fund at my disposal.
If it be your wish to aid in this matter, which I very cheerfully recommend, will you please notify me before the 10th, inst.

But the fiscal year having closed I have no funds at my disposal for paying the necessary expenses of the schools. Will you please grant $1000 00/100 for this purpose?
