American Tract Society New York, Aug. 13 1868 Rev. WM. A. HALLOCK {SECRETARIES.} Rev. O. EASTMAN, Rev. J.M. STEVENSON, O.R. KINGSBURY, ASS'T SEC'Y AND TREAS. S.W. STEBBINS, DEPOSITARY, No. 150 Nassau-st. Rev. R.M. Manly Supt. Ed. Va Dear Sir, Mrs. Stoutenburg a successful teacher in the Freedman school Fredericksburg informs me that there is some hope of your being able to support her should she continue in the work as that permits during the coming winter. I do not know which resources maybe at your command for this purpose, but I am persuaded that the investment would be a good one, especially since the colored people of Fredericksburg so appreciate her labor, that they offer to provide her with board. Please write her definitely to my care. Very respectfully yours G.L. Shearer Asst. Secy A.T.S.
