My dear Sir, 

Your letters of the 4th & 7th inst. are rec'd. I share your satisfaction at the grand result in Vermont; & am delighted to hear that in our own state the prospect brightens. 

We have already made application for orders for transportation for one or two teachers & are making up the lists of the others as fast as we can. Never the less your reminder is well-timed for as it comes mostly upon me to make the list, just at this moment, and I am unused to it, it is necessary that I should be pressed on a little. 

Col. Lee will probably tell you that he has been here. He says two colored assistants will suffice, be he hardly thinks we can have much help from tuition fees, towards their support; but if you can pay $40. per month I think that two would be satisfied with that probably. However if you have seen him no doubt it is all arranged. Please let me know at your convenience; we are responsible for four only.
