Mr Manly,
Dear Sir,
We received your letter of Sept 14 and have been discussing the subject of repairs with Mrs Gardner. She is very unwilling to give up the hope of a school building and we have authorized her to go to Charlottesville Sept 21. to see if one can make any arrangements with the colored people and with the Bureau to secure a building for the future. But as we wish to avoid any possible misunderstanding I wish to say that this Society cannot take any responsibility in regard to the erection of a building nor do they authorize Miss Gardner to pledge them in any way.
