Dear Sir

I further reply to yours of the 17th inst. I have the honor to state that the freedmen of Meherrins Dept. assure me that they will pay enough tuition to pay the board of a teacher. They say they will pay ten cents per week per scholar from limited acquaintance with them in their county I think they are able to pay that amount in all but a few cases.

By some wrong influence or mismanagement the school house for their place was located over one mile in the woods and off from a public road where no suitable teacher could be induced to go and which would be very efficient to reach in the winter season. I am making arrangements to move the house nearer the court house and upon a public road. The people all object to
