Lawrenceville, Va.
October 3rd 1868

Rev. R. M. Manly
Superintendent Freedmen's Schools
Richmond Va

Dear Sir

I transmit herewith "Vouchers" of actual expenditures for transportation of Mrs. Burbank and myself from Cabot Vt, to Lawrenceville Va.

I would be pleased to have you sign the same and forward to the Commissioner as per their request or return to me as you may think best that I may forward.

We opened our school under quite favorable circumstances on Monday Sept 28th considering the excitement consequent upon the Dr. Lewis affair of which with full particulars you are doubtless apprised. Matter generally are quiet upon the surface. Yet I observe a deep under-current of intensified unfriendliness to "Yankees” which might readily develope. But labor for "peace."

Very Respectfully
Your Obdt Sevt
A.C. Burbank
