General:
I have the honor to make application for an appropriation of Seventy-five dollars ($75) for repairs of the school building at Mechanicsville, Louisa County Virginia for the purpose of providing accommodations for a teacher in connection with the school building. The colored people at that place have contributed liberally and manifested more energy than I have seen elsewhere among them to put up a good school house which they have finished unaided. A teacher is expected to arrive this week and it is found that owing to the hostility of the whites to the enterprise none of them will board her and there are no freedmen who can provide for her. Thus the whole plan of a school there after so much commendable
